ADD VARIANCE #4 is part of an interdisciplinary course in biomimetic design organized by The Department of Architecture at Aalto University in collaboration with ADD. The course will display an array of viewpoints and approaches to biomimetic design from landscape architecture to architectural IT. The tutors and lecturers of the course come from respective fields.
The course is open to all masters-level students of the university, thus they might come from many fields in addition to architecture. The course is combining technological method and structure know-how, architecture, environmental design and art. It relates to developing the visualization of basic science and artistic methodologies at our university.
Steven Ma's Biomimetic Design course aims to generate a series of botanical species; utilizing its structures and processes in nature in spatial and structural design from micro scale (millimeters and centimeters) to building scale (tens and hundreds of meters). Using techniques of accumulation, mutation, transformation, repetition and more. The students will be introduced to Maya and tools such as Keyshot Workflow, Maya Modeling Basics, Maya Advance Modeling, Deformation Techniques, Maya Renderings and 3d Printing Workflow. A review will be held on October 8, 2013.
